Welcome to the first posting of the Marysville Library blog. Here we expect to present small bits of library life and create a place for staff to share what they are thinking about. We hope to give a sense of what our library is like in ways you might not see when you visit.
There will be a rotation of voices writing for the blog. In each of their first entries they will introduce themselves and tell about their professional background. My name is Eric Spencer and I am the Managing Librarian at the library. I am new to Marysville but not new to Sno-Isle. I have managed three other libraries over the past eleven years. I received my Masters degree from the Information School at the University of Washington. I am excited to be here at this library and to get to know the community. You can reach me via our library web page.
You may notice that reference librarians and other staff are doing more “roving” around the library during their shifts. This give us the opportunity to meet more customers, answer questions, and provide a friendly greeting. We hope this proactive approach contributes to a comfortable and welcoming library experience. If you have experienced this, let us know what you think by posting a comment to this blog or send me a message.
You may have seen that Sno-Isle Libraries is working on creating a Strategic Plan for 2008-2013. This plan will help focus our priorities in the coming years. You can review the draft five-year strategic plan and then share your thoughts on open hours, materials, technology, and building facilities by completing this online survey. We are your library and are dedicated to making it the best it can possibly be.
